Our Travel Team Approach
Our Travel Team programs are open to everyone; selection is competitive. Players come from all over Fairfield and Westchester Counties, New York City, Long Island and New Jersey. They include public and private school players.
We compete locally, regionally and nationally in USA Water Polo & American Water Polo tournaments up and down the east coast. We field teams for the annual Junior Olympics National Championships for all age groups (to be held each year in Late July/early August). We also field teams for the Turbo Cup National Championship (only for non-high school 14 & Unders-held each year in early Nov.). Travel team players also are often selected to participate in trials for National, Olympic & Age Group teams.
Our older players (typically high school age) train and compete internationally. Since 2003, our European Travel Teams have been exposed to international competition and cultures on summer trips to Greece, Italy, Croatia, Serbia/Montenegro, Spain, Hungary and England. In 2011 our teams competed in Spain. In 2009 our teams competed in Italy.
Players age as of the start of tournaments determines team assignment based on USA Water Polo, American Water Polo and FINA international rules.
We encourage each player to attend as many of their team tryout dates as possible. Attendance at all tryout dates is not required, however.
Our History of Success
In 2011 we sent five teams to the Junior Olympics--the most teams sent by any water polo club this side of the Mississippi! All of our older teams, qualified for the prestigious Platinum Division of the Tournament. Our younger teams qualified for the Gold Division.
For 7 of the last 9 years, our Boys 14 & Under Teams have been the SOLE representative of the Northeast Zone to the prestigious Turbo Championships National Championship Tournament.
For 5 of the last 6 years, our Girls 14 & Under Teams have accomplished that Turbo Championship feat.
Our Travel Program graduates play water polo at top colleges and universities on the East and West Coasts and have won NCAA Chamionships and All-American and All-Conference honors in high school and in college.
Our secret for developing great players: our coaching staff. Lead by senior coaches Terry Lowe (long-time Greenwich High School Boys Varsity Coach), Bill Harris (Foreham University Men's Head Coach & Greenwich High School Varsity Girls Coach) and Year-Round Coach Paul Ramaley (Greenwich High School Boys Varsity Assistant Head Coach).
Others may talk about their programs, but THERE IS ONLY ONE GREENWICH WATER POLO.
THE BEST YOUTH WATER POLO PROGRAM FOR BOYS & GIRLS ON THE EAST COAST.
